GDS Engineering and site safety management for ST Microelectronics

Between 2016 and 2018, GDS Ingegneria was responsible for site safety management during the completion of the M9 production module at the ST Microelectronics plant in Catania, on behalf of the contracting company M+W Italy SRL.

A complex project that required rigorous process control, constant risk monitoring and meticulous operational planning.

Thanks to our method, we ensured that every activity was carried out in full compliance with LD 81/08 and the procedures set out in the Safety and Coordination Plan (PSC) and the Operational Safety Plans (POS) of the contracting companies.

Organisation and management of site safety

As the person responsible for managing safety aspects on behalf of the main contractor, Giuseppe Distefano’s team managed all operational phases of the project, supervising the contractors and verifying the compliance of safety documents. They also monitored the main contractor’s subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safety documents and adherence to the procedures put in place.

Our work has integrated technical and documentation checks with site safety management, ensuring consistency between the Site Safety Plan (PSC) and the Site Operational Plan (POS) and fostering collaboration between the various work teams.

Through regular meetings, document reviews and ongoing site inspections, we have maintained the construction site in optimal safety conditions, ensuring that preventive measures were always in place.

This dynamic approach has enabled us to minimise risks and optimise operational workflows, in full compliance with the construction site safety procedures set out in LD 81/08.

Supervision of procedures and on-site monitoring

During the course of the works, Giuseppe Distefano’s team implemented a system for the continuous monitoring of on-site activities, verifying the effectiveness of the safety measures set out in the safety and coordination plan and the operational safety plan, and taking prompt action in the event of any critical issues.

Close coordination between the various teams ensured the plant’s continuous production and full compliance with regulations.

Furthermore, the supervisory activities have helped to strengthen the safety culture among contractors, encouraging responsible and mindful behaviour at every stage of operations.

Thanks to this intervention, the contracting company M+W Italy SRL was able to complete the M9 project on schedule and without incident, confirming the effectiveness of our site safety management model.
